trauma Q & A

Trauma is your body’s natural response to extremely stressful events, whether they happened to you or to someone else.

What causes trauma?

Emotional trauma can be devastating to your physical and mental well-being. Some of the different types of trauma-related issues men, women, and children face include:

-Financial stress
-Physical, mental, or sexual abuse
-Chronic or terminal illness
-Automobile accidents
-Death of a loved one
-Natural disasters

The emotional trauma you experience after a stressful event can last for several weeks, or it can last for months or years. In any case, trauma isn’t anything you should learn to cope with on your own.

How do I know if I have trauma?

The specialists at The Healing Center can help you get through emotional trauma and learn how to prevent ongoing issues. You should seek mental health attention if your trauma leads to:

-Nausea
-Headaches
-Panic attacks
-Mood swings
-Anxiety or depression
-Missed work or school
-Increased or decreased appetite
-Poor communication with your partner
-Extreme sensitivity to certain stimuli

Emotional trauma can make you feel so uncomfortable, you start withdrawing from activities or events you once enjoyed, or even pulling away from your partner. If any of these issues sound like you, schedule an appointment at The Healing Center to get started on personalized treatment.
